WHo else is there? Most of the CORA is too far away to need to worry about now. I'm strictly talking out of an unusual orifice here, but perhaps Arminger doesn't much care about the opinion of neutrals, since none of them are important enough to threaten him much- the Protectorate, the McKenzies, Bearkillers, and Corvallis are pretty much the only major players.

Until Corvallis enters the war the Protector might have a small numerical advantage, or perhaps not(3000+, 3300+, 1500, 500-800 is more than 7500) but all this is likely to do is leave the Protector's forces bloodied and battered and possibly out of position just as a force equal to them enters the campaign.Īny arguments the other way? I suppose that if the Protector stormed Mt Angel and then immediately sued for peace he might get something out of it, but I doubt anyone would agree.

A heavy loss of knights and other cavalry could be even more serious.į) Corvallis factor. A loss of 3000-5000 men would probably leave him on the defensive for many years. The Protector has a large standing army and nothing beyond that as arming and training serfs is never considered a wise action. Also, as noted, the Protector will be lucky to be outnumbered by 2 to 1.Į) No cushion. Victories based on assuming multiple enemies all played carelessly with their homes and families on the line really irk me.ĭ) The militia defenders will get 100% turnout. Either that or the mercs don't care if the wife and kids don't live to see them come home or somehow the other three reported factions and random bandits all managed to get themselves destroyed beyond any possible revenge attacks/raiding. The idea of Pendleton having mercenaries to spare for this is just silly, unless the Protector left a strong force there.
